The Character’s Appearance

Appearance:
Onatah, is an Iroquois woman. Traditionally a Seneca.
As such, she has naturally tanned skin and long, thick, ebony hair.
She has a rather strong, feminine face that is almost like a rounded-out heart. Her brows are rather bold, yet compliment her strong nose and subtle lips and eyes. Her eyes are a dark brown, and framed by dark lashes.
Onatah has a rather athletic body-type. With natural curves. She has a bit of a pear-shaped body although it is hardly noticeable through her outfit. She has strong legs and arms as well.

Her hair is rather long, ending just below her breasts. It is usually left alone, save for a few braids hidden within her hair. She is a bit fond of putting beads in those braids. If hunting, however, she throws it all back in a sloppy braid, casting aside those beads for another day.

Onatah is rather proud of her Native American heritage and wears the traditional deer-skin clothing of her people. She can hardly be persuaded into anything else. The outfit consists of a deer-skin, knee-length overdress and a pair of simple deer-skin trousers. She wears simple moccasins but can be found going barefoot on some occasions.

Around her neck, she wears a strand of beads. In the middle of those beads is a single bear claw.
She also wears a simple string around her wrist, with a single red bead attached. This was the first piece of jewelry she ever made and she has worn it ever since (although often having to re-tie it as she grew)

Height:
5'6"

Weight:

129 Ibs

About the Character

Personality:
Upon first meeting a person, Onatah can come off as a woman of few words.
Not very open to conversing with strangers, she can seem a bit cold or distant.
However, she is a bit willing to lend a helping hand and has a kind-heart, whether she wants people to know that or not.
She acts differently around fellow Indians, than she does around Colonist or the 'pale-ones' as she calls them.
She's much friendlier towards her fellow Native Americans and others deemed an outcast by Colonist standards. More open to talking to them, about whatever it is that crosses her mind.

Towards the pale-ones, she is a bit harsher and less willing to do something for them unless she gets something in return. Onatah can be nice to them, but only if they prove themselves to deserve her kindness.

Fear(s):
Deep bodies of water.

Likes:
The snow, birds, hunting, telling stories, bears, beads, and hawk feathers.

Dislikes:
Humid weather, skunks, repeating herself, most Colonists, idiots, and the itchy clothing of the 'pale-ones'.

Habit(s):
-Bites her lip when waiting or thinking.

-Chews on her thumbnail while angry.

-Babbles in the Seneca language when upset or angry

Character Background:

Born and raised in a Seneca village, she was surrounded by love and peace.
Her childhood was normal, consisting of playing with fellow children, doing chores, and getting into mischief.
When Onatah was 10, she lost her father to a group of colonist hunters. Wheter the death was accidental, or on purpose, no one really knows. The loss of her father had a huge affect on Onatah and Wawetseka, her mother. The two withdrew from their friends.
Onatah became silent and had an almost morbid demeanor. Wawetseka took to constant prayer to the great spirits, having no time for other matters but prayer.

This went on for a year or two, until Onatah finally learned to cope with her loss. She began to come around more, smiling and laughing with the others.
Wawetseka, however, still maintained her solace.

Around the time Onatah was 15, her mother vanished one day when she went to pick herbs Search parties were sent, but no one found where she went or if she was alive or dead.
In her heart, she knew her mother was alive. Which provided some comfort.

When Onatah came of age, she learned the art of archery and hunting. She was a bit slow to learn, often getting angry when something went wrong and or awhile she chose to stop training. But after being pressured by her mentor, she continued.
By the age of 18, she was fairly skilled in hunting but wasn't allowed to join the other hunters, as it was not a 'woman's place'.
She took to storytelling and helping the new medicine woman. Onatah was content with doing just that.

Onatah still lives in her home village, but ventures out from time to time. Either for trading, private hunting, or just to explore.
